Dragon Warrior

Nintendo Entertainment System

Game Description:

The first in the long running series of games, beginning with the Nintendo Entertainment System and spanning the SNES, the Gameboy, and even the Playstation, as well as having mini-spinoffs which are a lot like Pokemon.

This, the original Dragon Warrior, starts you off in the throne room of the King of Tantegal Castle. He names you the descendant of the legendary Erdrick, who once possesed the Ball of Light. It has been stolen, the Dragonlord’s minions roam the lands, and the Princess is kidnapped. You, the descendant of the legendary hero, must confront evil and save the continent.

This game features a single-character interface with single-monster battles. Do not think this means it will be easy…you can easily go in over your head. You must make sure to buy equipment, as for some odd reason, trained descendants of heros do not have any starting equipment.

This game was once released by Nintendo along with subscriptions of Nintendo Power magazine, so it is not extremely rare. However, it is a good place to start learning of the series, as it began everything. Also, the rest of them are considered hard to find. If you get one, consider yourself lucky!

Translation Description:

This is Polinym’s basic translation of Dragon Quest for the Famicom. It is not considered a “WFC” project and therefore little to no attempts were made to localize or alter existing content.

All of the text in the game is translated, and the “Engrish” bits like the ending were left unchanged. Because of space issues, some details were left out, but Polinym tried his best to ensure all text was as natural as possible. The goal was to be as accurate as possible in the space provided.

Despite Polinym’s best efforts, only two known issues remain in the game. The “secret entrance” behind the Dragon King/Dragonlord’s throne, and the displaying of “Wing”s in the item menu. Other than those, the entire game should be error-free, and 100% playable.

Rev. 1.1 - Fixed a typo (”recieves” to “receives”)

Rev. 1.2 - Fixed issue “Lailho” to “Laliho”. Fixed text overflow.

Rev. 1.3 - Resolved password issue.
