Idol Hakkenden

Nintendo Entertainment System

Game Description:

Idol Hakkenden is an adventure game for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

Translation Description:

A special translation of Idol Hakkenden for the Famicom, created by Polinym of the Woolsey Fan Company (W.F.C). The first translation issued by the W.F.C. This translation aims to be a localization of the game that is meant to be the closest thing to an official 80’s release by Nintendo of America.

Pop Star Debut tells the story of a young girl named Sabrina E. Seltzer who dreams of becoming a famous pop star. She must go on a silly, strange adventure to gather 6 friends and become famous. However, her plans are threaten by an evil entertainment overlord who wishes to lure her to his dark empire.

A large emphasis was placed on the writing of this translation. The WFC strived to not merely provide a definition of the original dialogue, but make it come alive again for players.

Localization in this hack includes changing Japanese names, places, items, etc. to versions to a more familiar terms. It also includes censorship of a few instances of swearing, blood, and references to suicide.

Due to technical issues of not having enough space in the text blocks, the opening/ending song lyrics could not be localized and are replaced with “Lalala”. Also, the lyrics to the “mini-songs” within the game do not match up the notes in the music.

The WFC added several fixes to the original game not found in any other translation. The character Sabrina is depicted in official artwork and the game’s cover as being blonde. However, in the original Japanese game, she is shown in game with orange hair. The WFC restores the intended blonde color for Sabrina’s hair. An error was made in the original game where the “Pop Czarina” hair was messed up by a few tiles. The WFC found the missing unused graphic tile and recreated the intended image.

Also included with this patch is a complete localization of the game’s manual. Not only was it translated, but it imitates a real Nintendo of America Instruction Booklet.
