This is a complete translation of ‘BS Super Aleste’ – or ‘Super Aleste (BS)’ for SNES, or technically the SFC Satellaview! Version 1.0 is finally ready for release!

While the game itself uses a mix of Japanese and English in its native form, and is largely playable without being able to read Japanese, there are a few very good reasons this project was taken on. The BS version of ‘Super Aleste’ (as with the others) has a TON of nice fanservice content and features, and navigating through them – indeed getting the most from them – is very difficult without comprehension. Also, the English localizations of the original SFC version were both bad, to varying degrees.

It turns out that the Japanese cartridge release is nearly identical to the BS version, a fact the translator wasn’t aware of when beginning the project. That said, if there have been any hacks to turn BS-X flashcart ROMs into standalone ROMs, they are little known and nonetheless very rare! Also, as mentioned above, the two English localizations of the original were quite bad – butchering art assets, using really obnoxious new voice samples, using poor translations in some places and over-literal ones in others, and – for the American release – even changing the name and tweaking the difficulty. For some reason they even covered up the fact that one of the main characters is a female!?

At present, this project is VERY near reaching all of its initial goals! All Japanese text has been translated into English (and all “Engrish” corrected) while maintaining all of the art and sound assets from the original. In addition, the ROM now functions properly as an independent SNES ROM, without needing to worry about the BS-X BIOS or emulator compatibility! There are still several more “stretch goals” the translator would like to accomplish, so stay tuned! In the meantime, this will hopefully be seen as THE definitive version of Super Aleste!
