Description:
The Legend of Zelda The Winter Lion, return to the land of Hyrule you once knew. Now an aged hunter, “Old Man Link” will decide the fate of the world and its inhabitants.
In this retelling of the Legend, there are forces pulling society into maddening doom and there are those who oppose them. As a seasoned and skilled hunter, choose who to help.
Will you stand with Hyrule and its burgeoning army or will you stand with Zelda and revolution. Will you enforce the winter or help prevent it. The choice is truly yours.
- New story of an old hunter, whose destiny is not fated but chosen.
- Dialogue for all major characters have been altered.
- Some dungeons hold two separate paths, to drive the narrative.
- A slightly more complex political story.
- The overworld remains mostly unchanged.
- New enemy placement and some alterations to dungeon layout.
- Difficulty- mild, this is a more story driven hack.
Note: There’s a quick walkthrough in the ONLINE read me file.

A good idea with iffy execution
Reviewed By: JDP on 11 Feb 2023While this hack has potential, and the idea of a story-driven Zelda game is a concept I, personally, would love to see delved into further - in the game’s current state I cannot recommend it. The dialog needs to be pretty heavily proofread. I’m not certain if it’s an issue of limited space or if the dev’s first language isn’t English, but there are lines that are somewhat difficult to follow in the way they are presented. Characters don’t speak like you would expect somebody to.
The other issue is that very, very early into the game you are given a single bomb. At this stage in the game you would have encountered a good six or so different locations to bomb. The problem is, if you don’t use this SINGLE bomb in one of the two exact locations the game wishes you to, from what I could tell you can’t get any other bombs and you have essentially soft-locked your game before it’s even fully begun.
That being said, the version I’m reviewing is 1.0 so I would love to see a bit more development and polish, and I’d be more than happy to revisit it later once said fine tuning has occured.
