Pokemon Black and White - Complete Unova Pokedex Edition

Hack of Pokémon: Black Version

Description:

Inspired by Pokemon Emerald: Complete Hoenn Dex Edition, this hack of Pokemon Black and White aims to allow the player to complete the entire Unova Pokedex without trading while making a few slight modifications meant to improve the overall experience (check the readme to see the list of modified wild encounters).

Evolution changes (while you cannot get all of these in-game, they’re all changed for various purposes. The original method to evolve these pokemon can still be triggered for compatibility’s sake):

  • Machoke, Graveler, Kadabra and Haunter evolve at level 40.
  • Poliwhirl and Slowpoke evolve to Politoed and Slowking respectively by leveling up while holding King’s Rock.
  • Onix and Scyther evolve to Steelix and Scizor respectively by leveling up while holding Metal Coat.
  • Seadra evolves to Kingdra by leveling up while holding Dragon Scale.
  • Porygon evolves to Porygon 2 evolves by leveling up while holding Upgrade.
  • Electabuzz evolves to Electivire by leveling up while holding Electrizer.
  • Magmar evolves to Magmortar by leveling up while holding Magmarizer.
  • Rhydon evolves to Rhymperior by leveling up while holding Protector.
  • Porygon2 evolves to Porygon-Z by leveling up while holding Dubious Disc.
  • Dusclops evoles to Dusknoir by leveling up while holding Reaper Cloth.
  • Clamperl evolves to Huntail or Gorebyss by leveling up while holding a DeepSeaTooth or DeepSeaScale respectively.
  • Boldore evolves at level 42.
  • Gundurr evolves at level 45.
  • Karrablast and Shelmet evolve by happiness.

Other changes:

  • Nidorina and Nidoqueen can now breed.
  • Movepool additions made to Unova native pokemon in Black 2 and White 2 have been included. Also, pokemon that evolve by using evolutionary stones now have an abridged moveset prioritizing moves they would normally lose access to if evolved early (the same still applies to few pokemon that, while no requiring stones, suffer similar loses as well).
  • Mienshao, Bisharp, Braviary, Mandibuzz and Zweilous now replace their pre-evolved counterparts during the main story (those may still be found in specific areas however).
  • Some trainer battles have been slighly modified for variety and difficulty reasons, while also accounting for the changes done to movepools and pokemon availability.

The hack can be patched with XDelta, which can be found here: https://www.romhacking.net/utilities/598/

A step too far with the changes

Reviewed By: onigirli on 08 Feb 2023

It’s hard to give this a No because I doubt many will have the same issues as I do, it is indeed a great hack. But as someone who ONLY wants the evolutions, learnset changes and wild pkm availability tinkered with, I do not approve of additional changes made to the difficulty of trainer battles. I find the vanilla hard enough as it is for someone who just enjoys a casual playthrough (stopping after becoming the champion) and am put off by the need to make it even harder to adjust for the QoL-ish improvements offered by the hack. This is a problem for those of us, however few, found B&W harder than the previous gen games. But thank you anyway.
