A very impressive effort for a game lost to time
Reviewed By: Supergamerguy on 02 Feb 2023Thanks to this hack, Dr. Wily’s Revenge looks just like one of the NES titles! Just as the remixed stages parallel their NES source material, the use of color in this hack does the same, converting some palettes perfectly from Mega Man 1 and 2, while “remixing” some color choices for enemies and hazards to (finally) give Dr. Wily’s Revenge its own identity. This also helps players distinguish backgrounds from hazards in the foreground in ways the monochrome original couldn’t handle. Cutscenes were especially impressive, showcasing several detailed sprites at once, all with fitting color sets. I also noticed significantly less slowdown than in the Gameboy original.
This hack is a must-play for anybody looking to revisit Dr. Wily’s Revenge. Leave the vanilla game buried in the past where it belongs.
