Description:
The new 2.0 version of Mother 2 Deluxe is a VAST improvement over the old 1.31 version that was here in romhacking.net.
A very small selection of major new features:
- Massively rebalanced to make the game more fair and less arbitrarily difficult.
- Jeff has his own Tools menu of his special items to free up his inventory.
- Many new battle animations for PSI and Jeff’s Tools.
- New final dungeon to tie Mother 2 and 3 together.
- Your Places (formerly known as Your Sanctuaries) that can be skipped until later (Lilliput Steps, Milky Well, Magnet Hill, and Pink Cloud) now auto upgrade their enemies and bosses over time to stay at your power level all game.
- Enemies completely reprogrammed to be very intelligent. Bosses and stronger enemies can detect status ailments on them and heal themselves.
- New PSI and PSI arrangements and costs.
- New battle sprites and enemy overworld sprites.
SO MUCH MORE!
Hack requires EBP (Earthbound Patcher) in order to patch.
Does not play nice with Snes9x and Zsnes (why are you using Zsnes!?) Recommended emulators are BSNES and Mesen-S.

Fresh Take on an Old Classic
Reviewed By: starrylunar on 30 Jan 2023I found this hack really refreshing, playing a version of earthbound where I had to put my brain to use more than you have to in vanilla considering how easy that game is. The new tools menu for Jeff let me get actual use out of them for once and Poo felt like a wholly new character and felt much more unique rather than just being a worse Paula until becoming a starstorm bot. All of the new PSI animations and sprite work were a treat as well and I got so much more use out of status effects than I ever did before. The better condiment system was also a nice change, though I’ll admit I still didn’t really use them, it’s hard for me to justify spending the inventory space on them. This, unfortunately, does come with some snags, the balancing can feel wonky at times (which I am aware is getting improved upon for next version), making some fights feel very exhausting unless you get lucky with a debilitating status. I’m also not sure if I’m misremembering or not but the enemy spawn rate seems *much* higher than it was in vanilla and that was probably my least favorite part of the hack, there were just so many enemies in some dungeons it made traversing them really sluggish because of the enemies higher difficulty. Some of the instant kill’s late into the game like PK Beam gamma also frustrated me, but that’s not a problem I have with this hack exclusively, I just don’t enjoy those kind’s of moves in any rpg. Overall though I quite enjoyed this hack and am looking forward to 3.0 whenever that is finished.
