Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen is an role playing game for the Nintendo DS.
Translation Description:
This is one of two patches for Dragon Quest IV DS that mods in the DS english translation of the main story content for Dragon Quest IV (DS version), but more importantly, also mods in the mobile port translation for party chat.
The localized version of Dragon Quest IV on DS omitted Party Chat as an option from it, which sadly omits most of the character interactions and fleshing out of the cast from the story. However, this patch restores the party chat option into the game, and ports all of the translated text from it from the mobile phone version of the game into the DS version! If you want the complete story of the game that does the characters justice, this is the version you want to play.
Since this is an XDelta patch, even the officially localized version of Dragon Quest IV which has party chat disabled will re-enable party chat upon applying this patch.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This version of the patch is meant to be used specifically to overwrite the English version/ROM of the game. Do NOT use this patch on the Japanese ROM.

Reviewed By: nokber on 20 Dec 2022Restoring party chat makes Dragon Quest IV much more interesting, and this hack is so close to providing us with the definitive version.
Unfortunately, even though this rom uses the US version as its base, the patch replaces the player name entry screen with Japanese, without the ability to use Latin letters. As a result, the main hero name will be in Japanese even if the rest of the script is in English.
While the game does not give you a default name and so this technically doesn’t impact the plot and doesn’t get in the way after starting a new game it does look awkward.
As a result the mobile version of Dragon Quest IV may still be considered the definitive version. That said, many people will still appreciate the ability to have the complete script on the DS, and I still recommend playing it this way. Hopefully this one issue can get fixed down the line.
