Dragon Quest II: Delocalized

Hack of Dragon Warrior II

Description:

Dragon Quest II: Delocalized is a project aimed at providing English speakers with the opportunity to play the second Dragon Quest game in a form that looks and reads like the Japanese Famicom version, while still retaining key improvements from the North American release.

The script has been entirely retranslated in a contemporary English style that matches that of the Famicom version. Work was initially based on a translation document by x_loto. Over several stages of improvement, the script has been thoroughly revised in collaboration with primary translator, nejimakipiyo and native Japanese speaking consultant, Dattebayo. The authors believe that the resulting script is more accurate than any other English translation, while still conveying fluid, natural language.

The graphics of Dragon Quest II have been restored to that of the Japanese version, with changes including priest sprite, church crosses, coffins for dead party members and a white floor cross in the Temple of Hargon.

  • Note - Version 1.11 was a major update with improvements to over 80 percent of the text. Additional embellishments in the original localization have been removed, and missing Japanese text has been restored. Countless other error corrections and refinements were made.
  • As of version 1.15, optional patches are included to revert spells to either official naming system.

Please submit any issues or feedback on this combined project thread:thread.

The True Dragon Warrior II

Reviewed By: Kallisto on 13 Nov 2022

Seeing the many differences in what was supposed to be the real names of all the places, monsters, and items was very interesting. Surprisingly in this playthrough I actually managed to get a Orb of Restoration which I don’t believe I ever gotten before (its been many years since I played the original NES version of DW2).

I never encountered any bugs, so I can say this is very solid romhack!

Though nostalgia in me will always love the localized names, and the localized Priests & star symbols (those things were cool even though it was meant as a censor).

Also I’ve played the Author’s De-localized version of I & III, and those are very solid too.

Recommendation -

Because I thought some of the localized names were better, maybe someday, someone can do a remix of the de-localization and the localized version.

Version 1.16 Recommended - Yes
