Description:
The first entry in the Wario Land series has been colorised with this hack.
It doesn’t have the quality of the Mario Land color hacks, but it’s still better than the monochrome version.
It doesn’t run on a monochrome Game Boy, only on a Game Boy Color.
ROM / ISO Information:
- Database match: Wario Land - Super Mario Land 3 (World)

A great start, but still pretty buggy.
Reviewed By: Bluestreak on 06 Nov 2022At long last, all three Super Mario Land games AND Wario Land Game Boy games are in full-color!
But as the author said, don’t expect anything along the lines of Toruzz’s work with the first two Super Mario Land games.
Let’s go through the good and bad.
Good: Level palettes are very well chosen, and for the most part, feel along the lines of Wario Land 2 & 3. Most characters have well-chosen palettes, and there is no slowdown more than the original game has from my playthrough via the BGB emulator.
However, there is also the bad. And most of the bad can luckily be improved should the author continue the project, or someone take the reigns over if they choose not to.
Bad: Very glitchy color loading, when changing screens, with artifacts when the screen scrolls, or blocks are broken. Sometimes the letters disappear when the course number screen loads. Some graphical elements needed to be redrawn in. Few stages to compensate for the new colorized graphics to reduce jagged edges (forest levels are the worst offenders), and some characters, like the pirate ducks, look extremely strange with being very orange. Captain Syrup herself could use a bit of shading removed and slight redrawing to look better as well. Also, the colors around the coins sometimes don’t match the background.
While it has a long way to go, even with these criticisms, I’d still say if the glitchiness doesn’t bother you, go for it! What does look good, looks VERY good! The author has something good going, and can be even better, should they continue it and iron out the bugs.
I Played to the end, only one game freeze was found in Course 37, so game freezes should be rare, at least on BGB. I have not tried it on MGBA nor real hardware.
