Faxanadu Restoration

Hack of Faxanadu

Description:

This patch fixes several bugs, includes saving (with floppy icon), retains uncensored graphics and features (including name registration), uses the (easier to read) European font and a 2xSAI equivalent (for name registration). The title screen displays “Continue” based on whether or not you have a valid save. This patch also includes the original Hudson USA translation, with only minor editing.

There are two files included; now you don’t need a specific emulator!

Awesome, but why use a straight up script port?

Reviewed By: capncrunch992 on 28 Sep 2022

This hack essentially brings the original Famicom version to an English audience, with some very welcome bug fixes. But it also applies a straight up port of the existing script used in the NES localization. While this script has some rough edges, the main issue is that the player naming system is made obsolete since the existing English script makes no references whatsoever to the main character’s name. I believe the original Japanese script referenced the character by name at least a few times throughout his journey, but there are no such references to be found in this hack.

I suppose it seems like a trivial thing to complain about, but it’s worth noting to those who were hoping for a more comprehensive approach to the game’s translation.
