Gimmick! Quality-of-Life Mod

Hack of Mr. Gimmick

Description:

This is a hack for Gimmick! (J) that aims to make the jumping mechanics more forgiving. It accomplishes this with the following two changes:

  • The player can now jump a couple of frames after they fall off of a platform.
  • The player can now press A a few frames before landing and they will jump once they land.

These changes make it less likely that a jump input gets “lost”, especially when making tight jumps or jumping off of slopes and moving surfaces.

This makes a much bigger difference than I thought it would

When I first patched this and gave it a try I didn’t really think it would make that much of a difference but when I played the game back to back with the unpatched version, the difference was night and day and it makes the game just that little bit more responsive and forgiving to play. I would actually love to see more patches for old NES games that allowed for Coyote-jumping and the ability to start another jump slightly before you actually land the first.
