Hack of Final Fantasy V

These patches are small convenience enhancements for Final Fantasy 5. They ensure that the “Sprint” (or “Dash”) and “Learning” abilities are always considered active, allowing you to devote your precious ability slots to other things.

Version 1.1 adds a few other oft-requested patches (and one not-so requested patch):

  • Reverse Sprint button check (Sprint by default; hold B to walk)
  • Always Find Pits
  • Always Passages
  • Always Map

Note that each is a separate IPS patch, so you can apply only the ones you are interested in.

These patches are quite tiny, and should be compatible with every SNES version of Final Fantasy 5 (Original Japanese, RPGe Translation, GBA Script Port, FF5Spoof), and are probably compatible with every other mod out there unless it’s a gigantic overhaul mod.

Very, VERY convenient

I always don’t like how in old FF games you are forced to use an equip slot or similar just to have an overworld sprint (especially the SNES ones) - the default speed makes the game feel a lot more dated (graphics aside like FFIV) than it should and it takes up an otherwise precious slot in your equipment and could potentially be lethal in the most unwanted situations. It wasn’t until FFVII where holding B (X on PS, or just using the analog stick) would make you sprint regardless. It’s already standard in other later RPGs, so why not touch it up a little to make it less slow than it was? Combined with the FFV GBA Script Port +bugfixes and only using the hold to sprint…this is close to playing FFV almost like it’s an official release, but a bit faster to handle.
