SA-1 is a co-processor present in some SNES games. Being roughly four times faster than the main CPU it can significantly improve a game’s performance and that is the purpose of this hack, to remove slowdowns present in the original Mega Man X.
Other changes include:
- Leg Dash defaulted to the L button.
- Generated passwords are saved into SRAM
- Control scheme saved into SRAM.
- Subtanks stop depleting at full health.
- Disabled double-tap to dash.(optional)
ONLY APPLY ONE PATCH:
- mmxsa1.ips
- mmxsa1_double_tap_disabled.ips
Besides zsnes, it should run on all emulators.

READ if you're playing on an FXPAK Pro with firmware 1.10.3 (+ review)
Reviewed By: tsubasaplayer16 on 29 Jun 2022This hack works and really does remove the slowdown. You can see it when the demo plays out. Having your generated password get saved after you turn your console off and other configurations saved is really nice too, it saves the tedium of having to input it every time. Play it with this patch!
(—FOR FXPAK PRO USERS—)
If you’re playing this hack on an FXPAK Pro/SD2SNES, this patch in particular will actually NOT make the game run because one of the SA-1 files that the 1.10.3 firmware uses is bugged (funnily enough, SA-1 games and SA-1 hacks like Contra 3 work as intended, but not this one). This is NOT due to the patch itself. You have to go here to get the fixed SA-1 file that will make the game run correctly: https://github.com/mrehkopf/sd2snes/commit/71e7ec54098e38d4c7ea38617b2810675ac07fa3#commitcomment-36408651 (your SA-1 bi3 file should have a date modification of December 12 2019, which is this one, not the April 1 2019 one it was initially provided)
This review will be updated once a fix is fully released officially, since 1.11.0 is currently in beta and 1.10.3 (and its unofficial _sgb07) is the current stable release as of the time of this review.
Happy playing.
