Mario Kart Super Circuit - Music Restoration

Hack of Mario Kart: Super Circuit

Description:

An Improvement to the samples in Mario Kart Super Circuit, this changes both the sound engine and the limitations of how the samples are played, so they can be played at a higher rate!

This rewrites the games sound engine completely, and adds longer samples in so you can enjoy the game in pristine quality audio! This was done by researching some of the Code in the prototype Ique Builds, as they have a newer sound engine that allows playback of wav files. Now the Game’s audio plays pretty Crystal clear now, as the author has used the decomp once again in a way of compiling and adding the new data into the older rom manually. The game’s music sounds so much better, and so do everything else with all the limitations removed. This is the final release of the hack for now, further improvements will be made if alerted of any errors, though the hack as it stands is now complete.

Oh yeah I know I said 5.0 would be the last update but I realized Mario Circuit 4 would crash while opening in Quick Run Mode, so this fixes that, and sounds better then even the last update.

p.s. Though the author can’t say much about it yet, but a full color improvement mod will be coming in the future, but it will be a little while before that happens, so just wait in the meantime.

What am I missing here?

Reviewed By: vic_viper_001 on 06 Jun 2022

I’ve tried all versions of this hack including 3.0, the most recent. I’ve tried them with headphones and my PC volume set at 50%, which is plenty loud. I’ve tried multiple Emulators… such as the GPSP Retroarch core, standalone MGBA, standalone VBA, and standalone No$GBA. I’ve tried with and without disabling any sound enhancements present within the emulators I used. I honestly cannot tell the difference between this and the vanilla game. Perhaps I’m doing something wrong. Perhaps the difference is subjective, or my actual ears are screwed up. I am an average layperson with no technical knowledge and untrained ears, and this sounds no different to me.
