The devs retooled the playable units, equipment, maps, and enemies and the changes all make the game better.
There are loads of significant QOL improvements like access to Big Chocobo, more save tiles, and a very fun bestiary that lists potential drops and other useful information.
Enemy drops are more frequent and I even got a really cool rare equipment drop on my run that added a lot of fun to the early game.
The overworld maps are packed with new places to explore and going out of your way to look around and search is worth your time.
I especially love how much was added to the end game. Without spoilers, in Ultima there is still a ton of content to work through when you would otherwise be almost done with the vanilla game.
The playable units are rebalanced in a way that encourages you to play to their strengths and not just mash the FIGHT command. Even units that used to flat out suck are now useful and fun to play.
There is an active discord with experienced players and even devs who are happy to help and drop hints if you need one.
I had actually come to RHDN looking for something else when this hack caught my eye. I’m really glad I checked it out.
