Description:
The purpose of this hack was to make the original Mega Man much easier for gamers that find games that aren’t too incredibly tough more enjoyable.
Key changes:
- The vast majority of spikes and bottomless pits are eliminated. There are still some left in to provide at least some challenge.
- Each Robot Master receives a considerable vast more amount of damage from their weaknesses than they did in the original game.
- Each Robot Master receives a good bit more damage from the Mega Buster than in the original game.
- Each Robot Master’s weapon does a considerable less amount of damage to the player.
- Many levels feature less enemies and more powerups.
- All special weapons only use 1 unit of energy.
This hack was created with the use of the Rock and Roll Level Editor.

Comments: This Simplified version of Mega Man 1 comes the closest to achieving its goal, but still misses the mark. A couple of pits and spikes remain this time around but the stages are littered with power-ups and tweaked gravity, allowing Mega Man to jump one block higher. These are good adjustments that make the game easier without neutering it, but the balance is all over the place. The first bit of Bomb Man’s stage and Wily 1 are untouched, the notorious pit in Ice Man’s stage can be conquered by merely holding right, Elec Man and Big Eyes still do too much damage, the Yellow Devil and Ice Man only do measly slivers of damage, etc. I don’t think this is a good hack for newbies, which is a shame as Mega Man 1 needs an easy mode the most. But hey—at least an attempt was made.
