Marvin C | Hacking |
Perfect Name for the Hack
Reviewed By: Klaviaturist on 02 Jun 2011As if Mario RPG wasn’t a weird enough game as it was, Marvin C decided to take things to the next level with Mario is on Drugs. It is certainly not a perfect hack but for those that liked the original game it is worth at least a look.
Basically what we have here is a text, graphics, and difficulty hack. All the text is written from what I presume to be someone that is not unfamiliar with the games subject matter. It’s kind of like if Cheech and Chong decided to rewrite all of the dialog for the game. Some of it is downright hilarious as some of it was just not very well written with a ton of misspellings and some jokes that just go right over the head.
The graphical changes weren’t too drastic. They were really a lot of colors changes. Frankly, all the color changes, I guess, were made to look like the Mushroom Kingdom was tripping on acid or something. It was really bizarre but a fun change.
I guess what I didn’t really enjoy was the difficulty changes. Sometimes you will fight one or two enemies per battle and than other times you will end up fighting a dozen of them, making the battle move like molasses. Other times, you will fight an enemy that should only take a couple of attacks to take down, when instead they will take anywhere from 8 to 10 attacks. Because of this the game moves very slow and becomes somewhat of a drag to play.
I wouldn’t pass up playing this but keep in mind that this could have been a fun hack but the battle system is tweaked in the wrong way and really hurts the flow of the game.
