Galaga & Galaxian DX

Hack of Arcade Classic No. 3: Galaga / Galaxian

A patch for Galaga & Galaxian (E) [S][!].gb to make it work with the Gameboy color.

The patch also probably works with the other versions of Galaga &, but you will need to fix the headers afterwards.

This hack includes:

  • Colors for both games on the Gameboy Color
  • Still works with regular and Super Gameboy

2022/01/25 v1.0 2022/01/26 v1.1

  • Add more Galaxian colors.
  • Fix DMG and Super Gameboy graphics bugs

Close, But Not Enough

Reviewed By: SuperStarFox on 26 Jan 2022

Tried the rom-hack out and already it looks a little bit boring. I mean, the hack is still pretty cool now that we got a colorized port of Galaga and Galaxian but that’s the problem with only one game. It doesn’t save high scores, Galaga doesn’t seem to be in color since it’s eventually the same game with Super Game Boy colors. This hack seems to be rushed instead of having more effort put into the GBC hardware.

Only good thing is that Galaxian finally looks just like its arcade counterpart but the title looks exactly the same as the NES port and doesn’t seem to have that many changes.

To quote one thing “Keep things to yourselves and polish them with obsession. Gamers want to see it, don’t release them as soon as you are into something cool, push the hardware.”

This hack isn’t probably worth your time but it’s good enough for you to try out Galaxian if you’re looking for something in color.
