Corrected release date. Just checked Wikipedia, although it's not always a reliable source. The game wasn't released to the arcades until October 1986, and both the FDS and NES release dates were in 1988!

A Surprisingly Good Parody

Reviewed By: Klaviaturist on 03 Feb 2011

I was really skeptical to play this game. I am not a fan of parodies within the RPG genre (except Mother 2) so I put off playing this for quite some time. After reading a few very positive reviews I finally gave this unknown title a shot.

It takes place in a “magical” realm that is being terrorized by a demon that has brought “fear rain” down on the world that is turning people into monsters. Only three young humans can stop the terror. The story is derivative but it’s a parody so you can expect it’s making fun of itself. It all has a light fantasy feel to it with off beat comedic undertones.

The game plays like a classic JRPG with a Breath of Fire look to the battle screen. The battles are of course turn based. You gain experience to level up, etc etc. As I said, it’s a classic Battle system. There are a few unique things you can do in and out of battle though. One of your characters can build vehicles to use on the map and can build robots for use in battle. Another character can make items, weapons, armor, etc from just about anything.

The music was ok. I felt a lot of it was fairly repetitive. Especially the battle music. Nevertheless it all works fairly well for a light fantasy.

The translation was great. I didn’t notice any major errors anywhere within the dialog. It looks like quite a bit of time was put into this.

The game isn’t 100 percent perfect but if you like classic JRPGs for the SNES/SFC this is almost a must to check out.
