Dark Lord

Nintendo Entertainment System

Game Description:

Dark Lord appears to be an RPG on the face, but its battles harken to strategy/rpgs some – they’re actually quite similar to those found in games such as Cyber Knight, Light Fantasy, and Treasure Hunter G.

Translation Description:

This is an English translation of Dark Lord for the NES.

This patch should be complete. It is in IPS Format.

Good Translation, but with some minor issues

Reviewed By: Kallisto on 17 Jan 2022

To start off things I can say the translation does it job pretty well, but sometimes the font can make some words hard to read on what you’re looking at.

During my playthrough I was experiencing some visual graphical bugs that seem to never go away unless I used QuickNES as the Retroarch Core to run it, but even QuickNES came with other issues so its hard to verify if its the patcher or the emulator or both (with QuickNES I got this vertical color bar on the left side of my screen, but Idk if that is just part of the game or not).

Least this is according to someone knowledgeable about patchers that is somewhat beyond me.

I only encountered one text overflow error when talking with the Shop Lady during the story, but its a minor issue.

Aside from the patch, the game itself is quite unbalanced at certain points in the game and you may find yourself having to use the save state feature a lot. The final boss in particular seems to like to his broken death spell that is simply unavoidable so be prepared to deal with that too.

Also I really recommend a guide on YouTube and a text walkthrough as you will miss things very easily and even the true ending itself!

EDIT -

I made a error regarding some of the graphical issues with this game as it turns out its mostly original game issues rather than the patch itself except for an English text error. Overscan will fix some of these issues, but unfortunately it cannot fix the graphical tear on the menu block unless you play this game on Quickness than any other emulator from my experience.

I give this game 3/5
