Mahjong is an underappreciated game

Reviewed By: Red Soul on 12 Nov 2021

As a lover of Mahjong (specifically Riichi), it’s refreshing to see implementations of it translated properly instead of having to resort to FAQs on the side.

That said, tile and rule familiarity is still required to play properly (the author cites an excellent wiki for the aspiring Riichi player in the readme).

The author also deserves praise for greatly improving the readability of the wan suit tiles for western players (these tend to be hard to memorize at first).

There’s absolutely no criticism I can levy against the patch, as it is excellent, but te game itself can come off as a little dry and limited (Riichi requires four players, and this game uses a one versus one format, but that’s due to system limitations, really).

The Yakuman series is a long one and several (maybe all?) Nintendo systems had one, so I hope the author feels interested enough to tackle other entries!
