An amazing overhaul of a classic!Reviewed By: Sosuko on 17 Oct 2021
Note: Played with the English patch available on this site
Wow, I’m blown away by this hack. Even though I’ve played several of Puresabe’s intricate “boss fight” hacks, this one just takes all that complexity and innovation to a new level. Though the base mechanics of this game remain the same, nearly everything else from the weapons to the items, to the enemies and bosses has been overhauled improved. To be honest, I think it’s best to go into this one blind in order to be pleasantly surprised by all the crazy stuff that happens in this hack, so I won’t go into too much detail here, just a few bullets.
-Varied and interesting weapons. All have unique properties or traits that make them far more interesting to use outside the actual boss fights (e.g. slash claw can crit if you tipper people like Marth in SSB)
-Amazing miniboss and boss fights. Each level has both and several have entirely unique mechanics involved in their fight. Bosses also have much more complex patterns than the original game and are not susceptible to weaknesses in the same way as before (i.e. getting stunlocked by their weakness)
-Outrageous level sections. Seriously, I don’t want to spoil this one, but several levels have amazing sections in them that are an absolute blast. Kinda similar to how Megaman 8 had the shooter section in Tenguman’s stage, but ramped up to the next level
-(Mostly) Great dialogue. Though I played with the translation patch, the story and dialogue here is surprisingly good for a Megaman game. There is a lot of reference-based humor and other clever lines that actually had me pretty engaged in what was going on
-Replay value. There are several in-game achievements available for those who really like a challenge and are looking for an excuse to play this awesome game again
-Broken weapons. Some weapons are definitely more useful than others and will absolutely tear through enemies and bosses alike. Still, it’s nothing as bad as Metal Blade in Megaman 2, and every weapon does at least have some use
