Description:
This is a hack of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for Sega Genesis that adds features from Sonic 3 into it. The features are:
Features
- Slightly redesigned Title Screen.
- Knuckles is playable with all his moves from Sonic & Knuckles.
- File select screen ported.
- All item monitors from Sonic 3.
- Sonic & Tails now use Sonic 3 sprites.
- Moves can be done by pressing jump while in mid-air with or without shields.
- Tails can now fly/swim. However, he cannot pick up Sonic in “Sonic & Tails” mode.
- Super transformation is activated by pressing jump while in mid-air and the Super transformation glitch at the end of levels is removed.
- Transitions between acts and zones.
- Early levels have mini-bosses between Act 1 and Act 2. Sonic & Knuckles mini-boss music plays here.
- Early levels have signposts at the end of act 1 that fall down from the top of the screen along with item monitors that can be revealed when a sign lands on it.
- Some zones have different Act 1 and Act 2 music.
- The 2 player VS option is removed.
- The level select menu is not activated by pressing A+Start on the “1 Player” option, a la Sonic 3.
- A original feature: the HUD is changed so that it displays the current powerup(s) and if playing as Super Sonic/Super Knuckles the HUD displays an invincibility icon.
The patch is in xdelta format due to shifted data resulting in IPS patches containing original code. The ROM should be in BIN format.

Interesting, but has problems

Honestly, it’s an interesting idea to CROSS Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 and Knuckles. There are even two zones that have two bosses each. The remaining levels have “simple transitions between acts and zones”. It looks really interesting. It is played in a different way. However, a TERRIBLE bug can spoil the impression of this hack. And what is it? A bug during transitions of “Levels”… that is, the cutscene bug. After opening the capsule , either the game continues to work as intended, OR - THIS IS THE END and restart the game again.
Fortunately, there are rescue “Screens for Saving Progress”. If not for them, then this hack would not have been playable.
In the first version , there was no such bug. So the author himself made a mistake in the code. As in the first version, there was no third playable character (which, alas, is not fully finalized.)
Honestly, I recommend it purely for familiarization with the original version. But if you want to get a good “experience”, then look for the FIRST VERSION on the Internet (On Sonic Retro in the Hacks section)
