Hack of Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow

Description:

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow - Definitive Edition+ is ROM hack that serves as an addendum of the original Definitive Edition hack: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/4373/.

This hack has a myriad of improvements, such as bug fixes and Quality of Life changes to create the best way to play Dawn of Sorrow.

Some of these changes include: starting off with the Tower Key in Julius Mode, restoring Alucard’s original jump kick animation for the straight-down variant, giving equipment and souls new stat boosts and attributes, better character animations, new movement options for Yoko and Alucard, etc.

Here’s a video showcase of version 1.2.3: https://youtu.be/JuOxsSNICWk.

Check out the readme TXT or the PDF within the ZIP file for a list of every change made from the original Definitive Edition hack, excluding very minor changes like the de-capitalization of a letter or the removal of an extra space.

There are four patches in the ZIP file: two for the original character portraits of Dawn of Sorrow (old portraits), and another two patches with new ones in the style of Ayami Kojima’s art from ShadowOne333’s Dawn of Dignity hack (new portraits).

A new addition to version 1.2.3 are the Light version patches, which reverse changes made to some enemy names, new map tile colors, and Axe type weapons being able to hit twice per swing, like in Portrait of Ruin.

This hack only needs to be patched to a clean ROM of Dawn of Sorrow with a ROM patcher compatible with XDELTA1 files.

Top screens in the screenshots below modified to show more about the hack.

A superb improvement, although not that "Definitive"

This hack is no doubt the best QoL improvement we could get for a Dawn of Sorrow hack, almost everything is carefully rebalanced and I love every single bit of changes you guys have made. Keep up your good work heroes. You earned my respect through the already implemented fixes and I’m fairly excited to expect what else are left in your pockets. Also will you further expand upon this opportunity to make this an “undub” version (restore the Japanese voice clips initially cut in vanilla western versions, in the style of Mega Man X4 undub)? I’ll wait for any future news originated from you.

EDIT: Oh… I noticed the hitbox size of Vampire Killer is smaller, is it intentional? Every time I need to clean the grass enemies (Une) as Julius while having low MP, I have to duck, turn around, then use backward hit detection of whip swing to hit it, that’s pretty strange. Hope it got fixed in later revisions.
