Not better nor worse

Reviewed By: DixonCider on 28 Jul 2021

Castlevania Bloodlines had a distinct style. It mixed a litany of blues with red and green for contrast. It could over rely on blue too often, so some tweaks here and there would definitely help the aesthetic pop more. Does this patch do that? No.

Instead of improving the original art style, Pyron’s patch pushes the colours in a more realistic direction. Many more yellows are introduced. Sometimes it looks better. Sometimes it looks washed out. Sometimes the changes are utterly pointless, like a floor tile going from dark grey to a slightly lighter grey. Credit where credit is due, Johnny & Eric’s gameplay sprites now have the same colours as their cutscene sprites. It was a weird discrepancy in the original game.

If you like it you like it. If you don’t you don’t. It’s not an objective improvement though.
