A good first translation, but there is a lot to improve.Reviewed By: ius_pizza on 31 May 2021
The translation is a 6/10. About the quality of the texts and the translation itself can see a job that was decreasing as decreasing as you progress in the game. This translates into multiple orthographic errors, but also in some meaningless phrases and is especially noticeable on the second album, where the most important dialogues explaining the main history have moments of poorly constructed and meaningless phrases.
It is a shame because at the beginning of the game and until about the end of the album 1 the quality of the translation was outstanding. Dialogs of meals, jokes and double senses were perfectly translated What happened here? It seems as if the translator would get tired of the project halfway or as if he had gotten rushed to finish.
On the quality of the Romhacking, it is also a 6/10. It is complicated to hack a game to extract texts and reinsert them and everything works well. But the truth is that this Grandia translation does not work on original hardware and the recommended emulator (EPSXE) continues to be errors and hang even without using Save / Load State as they recommend. Sometimes the menus are broken down showing graphics with mixed colors that make it impossible to read well, this is fixed by restarting the game and loading a game from Memory Card (Never Load State).
The software also froze several times randomly, loading again I could continue. However there is a freezing in the final part of the disc 2 (J Base) that always happens and does not allow continuing to play, do what the player does. The only solution that has worked has been to load the original PAL-UK game and overcome that area and then reload the translation.
I know it’s complicated to translate a JRPG and I am very grateful for the work here deposited, but I think it is better to vote negatively on this translation so that if other Romhackers and translators see this know that it still does work here for completing.
