Landstalker Alternate Controls

Hack of Landstalker: The Treasures of King Nole

Description:

This is a modification of M.I.J.E.T. controls hack released by MagicianLord on the forums, here: https://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=20088.msg287838#msg287838

It changes the controls to be more friendly with standard 4-direction d-pads. Original controls require diagonal inputs, which can be a problem with modern d-pads. This patch changes this so that the standard ordinal directions replace the diagonal ones.

Up = ↗ Down = ↙ Left = ↖ Right = ↘

Note: Original M.I.J.E.T. patch has a different control scheme and is MIA.

May need quite a bit of practice

Reviewed By: ducknukam on 30 May 2021

I gave it a shot, but I’m pretty used to the original so I found myself failing more than usual in some of the precision jumps.

If you are used to the original controls then the new controls take a lot of practice and can even be counter-intuitive at times. On the other hand, newcomers might just find this the perfect fit.

Note that if you’re going to play this through an emulator, it may crash easily. Kega Fusion works well it seems, but I’ve experienced repeatable freezes in Genesis Plus GX and Pico Drive just by quickly pressing up, down, up, down.
