Dragon Ball Z: Legacy of Not Dying to Wolves

Hack of Dragon Ball Z: Legacy of Goku

Description:

This hack’s purpose is to balance the game’s difficulty, fix bugs and also improve its flow. Enemies no longer take away most of your life with their attacks at the start of the game, and stat increases are re-balanced so you’re not overpowered by the end of the game.

Source code: https://github.com/fcard/dbzlegacyofwolves

Changes:

  • Enemies only do a fraction of the damage they normally would, depending on how strong they are.
  • Flight now regenerates when you’re not flying.
  • Stats changed on all levels, for a more gradual increase in strength.
  • Attacks no longer have a chance of causing no damage.
  • Fixed bug where attacks would heal, potentially overflowing the target’s health and instantly killing them (targets including Goku himself!)
  • Boosted health of Raditz, Vegeta and Ginyu.
  • Changed bankrobber’s health from 7000 to 800.
  • The last few levels are much easier to acquire.

ROM / ISO Information:

An hack that remove all the frustration of the original

Reviewed By: Pier on 13 May 2021

I was interested about the “Legacy of Goku” trilogy on the GBA. However, if I managed to finish Legacy of Goku 2 and Buu’s Fury, I give up at the first village on the first game because of the insane difficulty and very slow flight mechanic.

This hack remove these 2 majors problems:

  • Firstly by making the enemies weaker. At the beginning of the game, you can now kill the wolves in 1 or 2 hits and they removes something like 10% of your health when they hit you (instead of you need 4-5 hits to kill them and they need the same to kill you). You doesn’t need a lot of time grinding anymore to face more dangerous foes like the T-Rex or the pterodactyl.
  • Secondly by giving you at the beginning 50 fly points (instead of less than 10 on the original) and now you recover fly points automatically (instead of searching some spheres that takes 10 years to respawn when you use it). Because you move faster when flying than walking and you need to frequently fly to collect an key item to complete an quest, this change make the game more fluid as you doesn’t need anymore to search sphere every 30 seconds at the speed of a snail.

The only problem I saw is that the fly regeneration is maybe too overpowered because the fly points regenerate even when you fly if you doesn’t move, making you virtually invincible because the enemies doesn’t attack you when you flight. However, this is not really a big deal because you can’t attack enemies as well when you flight and with the stats balancing, you clearly doesn’t need to abuse this mechanic to finish the game.

In conclusion, even if this hack doesn’t make the game better than its sequels, this is Cleary an huge improvement that allow me to complete the trilogy.
