Game Description:
Front Mission 2 is a turn based strategy game for the PlayStation.
Translation Description:
WARNING: THIS PATCH IS ONLY FOR THE REPRINT VERSIONS OF FRONT MISSION 2 WHICH ARE:
Front Mission 2 [Front Mission History] SLPM-87331
Front Mission 2 [Ultimate Hits] SLPM-87397
IF YOU HAVE THE ORIGINAL:
Front Mission 2 SLPS-01000
…then you will need to use the included Data Conversion tool on your ISO before you patch it.
All the scripts have been translated, but apparently they did/could not insert all of the translated script for the Events in the game (ran out of space to work with, perhaps?). So, they’ve included a text file that contains the translated script for all the Events as a workaround.
So, the patch is now final and finished, but not quite technically complete. But with everything now translated–even if you have to refer to the text file to know what’s happening during most of the Events–this game should now be fully playable.
Because of possible compatibility problems with your ISO, there are 2 patches. If one does not work, then try the other (each time on a clean ISO).
PLEASE DO NOT SHARE EITHER THIS PATCH OR A PRE-PATCHED ISO ANYWHERE!!
Because the Front Mission 5 Team has threatened to abandon any further work on any more games if you do. So, respect their wishes on this matter if you want more Front Mission goodness to come your way!

Utlimately not workable
Reviewed By: kashiwoo on 17 Apr 2021If you’ve read the description, you’ve noticed that this patch only translates event scene dialogue in-game. For all the intermission dialogue (a substantial portion), you have to rely on a text file included with the distribution.
It’s a cumbersome solution to a problem I imagine they couldn’t find another way around. If this were the only issue, I’d still give the patch a tentative recommendation.
However, a further issue is that skill descriptions are untranslated in-game. Given that skills are learned and equipped on-the-fly, it leaves the player completely blind for a large feature of the gameplay.
The only option really is to play the game with an English FAQ constantly open (along with the aforementioned text file).
There’s other issues too. The sound in the opening FMV is disabled. There’s also no translation for some of the text in the opening scene (the text file directs the player to a Youtube video, which no longer exists). The news articles and in-game websites are left in their “Engrish” form.
In short, this patch alone is not enough to be able to play this game. I can’t recommend it.
