Patching
Use the online patcher at romhacking.net (or the patcher of your choice) to apply the ips patch to the PRG0 version of The Legend of Zelda. The rom should NOT be PRG1, Rev A, etc. Verify against the hashes below when in doubt or use the Patch Online Now link.
Optional Patches
Optional patches are located under the ./optional folder. They should be applied after the main patch. The following optional patches are available:
- full_health.ips - Start the game and continue with full health.
- remove_automap.ips - Apply this before Infinite Hyrule. Or if you prefer the nostalgia of drawing your own map with pencil and paper.
- reveal_secrets.ips - Provides (very) subtle graphical cues for bombable walls and burnable bushes.
- reveal_level_9.ips - If you’ve tried everything and still can’t find level 9.
- start_with_sword.ips - Hate starting with the boomerang? This is your patch.

Great hack, but...
Reviewed By: Brianashton80 on 04 Apr 2021Complaints about starting with the boomerang are dumb. This is great, as I have grown accustomed to playing LOZ without getting the wooden sword anyway. Being able to kill enemies with the boomerang is a plus, and probably too easy if you use rapid fire. Herd the mob, and you can knock out the whole gang with a boomerang.
Tracking down the new locations for shops, rupees, heart containers, and dungeons was fun, but where the heck is 9? The clue for Lost Woods/Lost Hills makes no sense. I figured out Lost Hills after an hour of trying different combos of paths. Never figured the woods out. I noticed a strange thing happening in the far upper left corner of the map, where about 5 tiles over, things seems misaligned and no weapons seem to work. I tried the ocarina, bombs, fire, throwing boomerangs, arrows, and swords at it, nothing. What gives? I’ll keep playing till I figure out. Unless someone wants to give a clue to the clue. What’s missing?
