TMNT4 - Run with L/R

Hack of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time

This hack allows to run by pressing L or R as the second input:

  • You can run by pressing the direction (left or right) twice, like in a non hacked game
  • You can also run pressing the direction, followed by L or R.

Simply holding L or R like in The Hyperstone Heist will not be enough to run. You still need a double input, except that you can replace the second directional input by L or R. This is intentional to keep the controls balance similar, replacing the second directional input by L or R just makes it less likely to end up with input failure.

Remember to set “Player Dash” to “Manual” in the Option menu. This will not work with the “Auto” setting.

A good start, but it feels off...

First off, I want to say THANK YOU! as I’ve been wanting this hack for a while! It’s so weird that today I decided to try and see if I could figure out how to do it myself and you’d just uploaded it yesterday! I literally made an account just today to give my review and thoughts!

With that said, it feels a little off. I see what you’re saying about using L or R as a second input so you can dash as you walk a bit on either side, but the fact is you still need to walk for those first few frames before you can get it to dash after turning around from another direction (basically it’s hard to turn from left to right and then instantly use the R button as the second input to get the dash out).

Because of this it doesn’t feel as fluid or free moving as Hyperstone Heist.

I know that it says in the read me that this was done to keep from having “input failure”, but it just feels a little clunky.

In HH there’s this feeling of no matter where you’re facing you can literally point in the opposite direction to initiate a dash and hit rock soldiers out of their shoulder ram with yours or dash slide to go underneath foot soldiers who do the jumping kunai, as well as a few other quick dash dependent tricks, and you lose some of that here.

I don’t know if you could implement it to be exactly like HH (where you can literally micro dash from left to right by just taping the button as you change directions), but adding a variant of the patch with the dash button being more close to HH would be really awesome!

Either way, thanks so much for getting this out and doing something that I’ve wanted to see forever!
