Works as described, just what I needed! (And some advice for retroarch users)

The battle flashes in the original are very annoying, and they’re especially bad now that I’ve been playing this game usually with a sleeping person in the room. This hack gets rid of the blinding lights, and now it’s much more pleasant for both of us. It also seems to take out the single flash effect in cutscenes, but there’s a double flash that seems to still work so the cutscenes remain mostly the same.

I did have trouble getting the hack to work at first with the Beetle PSX core in Retroarch, but I found that using the tool ECCRegen on the ISO after patching it with PPF-o-matic made it usable with the emulator. The game will freeze almost instantly otherwise.
