Dynamic Action Selection Unofficial Update

Hack of Final Fantasy

Description:

Simple patch that removes the redundant steps forward & back when assigning commands to a Warrior. Requires CaptainMuscles’ original patch to be applied as well (patching order shouldn’t matter).

Works!! (but you must do one thing)

Reviewed By: jmd6488 on 13 Sep 2020

I’ve been running a bunch of tests on this update to Dynamic Action, mainly out of curiosity in response to the previous review. This is what I’ve found:

I can say with 99% certainty that “Dynamic Action Selection Unofficial Update” DOES WORK on both Grond’s FF and FF Restored. And it’s glorious.

IMPORTANT: you MUST apply both the base DAS hack and then the update BEFORE any other hacks!! It’s the only way for this to work without the game crashing or bugging out when a party member is slain. Then you can apply Grond or Restored, and everything else you want. I’ve run many tests, and this order of application prevents any fatal errors.

Kudos for such an awesome hack. Combat is super slick now.

  • ** EDIT/UPDATE: I have to revise my review based on new findings. My method works for Restored, with one unfortunate caveat. Running from boss fights/no escape fights will result in a bug where party member #1 drops dead. The other problem is that you can’t apply anything to a rom before applying Grond (because it is a bps file).

I will keep my opinion of ‘Yes’ as this does work w/o issues on a vanilla game, and Grond’s original Bugfixes pack. Probably others too. It’s all trial and error. You miss out on boss music, but there are options available.
