Corrected release date. Just checked Wikipedia, although it's not always a reliable source. The game wasn't released to the arcades until October 1986, and both the FDS and NES release dates were in 1988!

Aria of Sorrow: Julius Story Mode Hack

Hack of Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow

Description:

Here is the correct 1.4 update. Please look over the updated README file as well.

A few more changes have been made. Some enemy data entries that mentioned Soma have been edited and more healing items have been added to curb the difficulty. The updated README will go into more detail.

This is a “what if” scenario for Aria of Sorrow. It follows the same plot line as the original game, but Soma is not present. J comes to the Shrine attempting to regain his memories and has to explore the castle to regain his abilities. The entire story has been rewritten to focus on J (Julius) and his interactions with the original cast. He has his subweapons from the original, as well as others that have been added. There have been additions to equipment and items as well. Certain items and enemies have been edited within the castle to give the game a fresh feel. Be sure the read the READ ME file. Enjoy!

Great Concept.

I think this is a great idea! Giving a progressive leveling system to Julius? Absolutely wonderful! However lacking it may be in some of the other areas of play represented with Soma, it still has enough intrigue to make me play through it at least once.

I even patched it with a couple of the other character hacks, (AOS Genya Arikado Hack, AOS Zangetsu Hack, and AOS Hugh Baldwin Hack) to give the same concept to a few other whip weilders. LOL. Doing this screws up the dialogue though as well as some of the equipment you find. Still fun to run Nathan Graves and Miriam through AOS while leveling up though.

I do still feel it can be improved though. Given all of the sub weapons you could use in Harmony of Despair, I think more Red souls could’ve been used. Blue souls and Silver souls being used for game progression would’ve been nice. And Gold souls really had no reason to be removed at all, as they only auto changed various character stats. Maybe change them from souls to Enhancers. Blue souls like Final Guard, Omnia Vinitas, Bullet Shield, Barrier, these are just many suggestions for an endless amount of improvement here. My point is this hack WAS fun, but could have been much better.

Thank you and please improve if you can.
