1. It makes the game playable by one controller, because ROB translates much worse than a lightgun on even Nintendo’s modern day consoles. If it was released as a NES Online game, this would most likely be the best way to make it playable.
2. By not relying on the slower robot and the command mode, the later stages are less of a pain. Before one screw up with ROB could cost the entire stage. Now, not so much. Sure you could also use the second player controller, but that tends to be awkward.
This is perfect. Now, if only there was a way to get Stack-Up running…
