Final Fantasy 3 Eviltype is a patch of Final Fantasy 3 designed to completely rebalance the overall game, in such a way that it is as hard as reasonably possible without making it impossible for a theoretical newcomer to the game to still complete without unbelievable amounts of effort.
In less cheaply ripped-from-the-readme terms, Final Fantasy 3 Eviltype’s goals are to both vastly increase the game’s overall challenge, and to increase the usefulness of characters and equipment that were, in the author’s opinion, somewhat flawed.
The degree of changes vary, for how notable they are; Does anyone remember how the Epee was totally forgettable? Probably not, they forgot it. On the other hand, how many people noticed how, well, mediocre Umaro was? Quite a few people. These are the things Eviltype attempts to rebalance into more useful forms.
It attempts to do this by improving the flawed issues, though; Only a scant handful of negative “nerfs” were added(Three spells, one removed steal, and one altered Rage.), and only when they were felt absolutely necessary.
But don’t think this is going to be an easier trip because of this. Every single monster has been vastly improved on durability, damage, skillset, you name it, it’s been improved…except when you least expect it, and often how you least expect it!
Hopefully, you’ll enjoy it. Regardless, the goal I set out for when I made it was completed when I finished it; I enjoyed it. ^_^
Eviltype 1.1 adds a huge amount of small changes across the entire spectrum, ranging from more interesting late game boss designs, to retooling skillsets such as Steal and Sketch, to natural magic, to…essentially rebalancing every part of the game, rather than simply most of it, as well as retooling some of my less inspired enemy efforts.
And if that wasn’t enough, it now attempts to please all the people, all of the time, with four new variation patches-one easier, for those that want to experience a better balanced FF6 without as much challenge, and three somewhat harder patches designed to nerf commonly complained about setups, curb high levels of grinding, and do both at once.
This is a substantial overhaul-I hope people like it! I think I may finally be done with this, unless some bugs are found, which they inevitably will be. :)

This is my favorite game and I’ve been playing it since 1995. I know nearly every secret and exploit so the original game is extremely easy now. This hack revitalized the game so I could enjoy the story and battles again without being bored or going on “RPG autopilot”.
This hack made the enemies quite challenging at many points. You’ll often need to look at all your abilities and figure out how to push on. This will test a veteran’s FF6 knowledge (in a very fun way). With my playthrough, I ended up trying many party and equipment combinations I didn’t before and learned to appreciate more of the original game. For the first time I was learning to enjoy and utilize Umaro and Relm in difficult battles, as an example. You also have to start utilizing many more relics and items than in the original. This is one of the hacks strongest points: it makes me appreciate many facets of the game which I overlooked before due to FF6’s low difficulty. The hack also made the story (which is unchanged) feel earned again and of course its always enjoyable to experience.
New players looking for a new and fun SNES RPG will be able to enjoy this as well since the gameplay should be fairly challenging to a newbie as you aren’t familiar with the exploits which veterans are. You’ll have to look through all your abilities to come up with winning strats. And of course, this game has one of the best stories of all time. The story and dialogue thankfully hasn’t been altered in any way I can remember.
This hack is very difficult in the start, then varies in difficulty throughout until the end where it gets fairly difficult again. However it’s never again as difficult as it was in the start (my only disappointment). But more importantly, throughout the entire game all the battles are consistently interesting and engrossing enough to make it feel like a fresh playthrough and will keep your interest. I was never “bored because it’s too easy” and I get bored VERY easily these days!
There are some balance changes to characters and equipment which feel natural. Nothing is hacked to the point where it feels like it doesn’t belong, as in other hacks. Veteran players will be able to enjoy the games many abilities again with new twists and pleasant surprises! When you first played FF6, you learned to exploit many abilities, I’m sure, to overcome harder battles. It was a satisfying experience. You’ll have that experience again with this hack since so much is re-tuned in an intelligent way!
