Never thought I would see the day!

This hack is truly a childhood dream come true, and one i used to think about frequently (at least after playing NSMB Wii) at that.

In practice, it is just as fun as I expected, but a tad more challenging.. the hack forces the players to act strategically, as the field of view isn’t very big, and it’s difficult to get two players together who are both very good at SMB and/or know the level design by heart.. and even if you can manage that, your differing ideas as you proceed will likely make the game more difficult anyway.

If you’re a veteran player, you’ll likely find yourself giving your less-experienced partner first grabs on all the powerups, as well as trying to make sure they aren’t tripped up by unforeseen pitfalls and enemies.

One of the only potential flaws in the game (depending on how you choose to look at it) is that the level restarts when one player dies. It would be nice to see this changed so that the level continues with a single player, and the “dead” player returns for the next level, but this is admittedly a minor nitpick.

Overall, this is an excellent hack that helps to revitalize the game for players like myself who know the levels inside and out. I would recommend it to everyone, as it is one of the hacks truly deserving of the “Improvement” designation.

Corpse Grinder and Ti are the real MVPs, and I would love to see them make more NES games co-op compatible like they did with Bomberman and this game.
