Formatting error with Headline, it was necessary to remove the Italics bbCode. I assume that bbCode doesn't work in the entry box for Headlines, not that it matters. That was unknown to me, this being my first review entry. Also some minor touch-ups to the main review text, and placed [List] bbCode for the Luna and Dryad subsections. That hopefully improves the readability of such a lengthy text block!

Tetris Attack

Super Nintendo

Game Description:

Tetris Attack is a puzzle game for the Super Nintendo.

Translation Description:

Patch contains IPS patch for both Header & non Header versions of the game. This patch translates all textual images into English as well as the Dialogue (using custom Variable Font Width routines). The fontset used in this game was ripped from Tetris Attack as it was most suitable to use.

The only thing that is not translated is the character voices.

What if Tetris Attack wasn't localized with Yoshi's Island characters?

Reviewed By: thepatrickinator on 07 Oct 2018

What if Tetris Attack wasn’t localized with Yoshi’s Island characters? This English translation of Panel de Pon is my answer. Even though the game didn’t have enough tomboy characters to balance out the female cast of characters, it’s great to see this version of Tetris Attack look like without Yoshi’s Island characters.

The music differences in this compared to Tetris Attack is Thanos’ theme being the Final Stage theme in Tetris Attack, Cordelia’s theme before you fight her and her stage theme is the same song before you fight Bowser in Tetris Attack, and Lip’s theme replaced with a remix of the Yoshi’s Island theme intro in Tetris Attack.

Seriously! Why did we get a Mario theme for the international release? I despise the gender stereotype Nintendo gave for releasing video games to the international audience back then. It must be because people in the 1990’s had bellaphobia for cute video games, but at least we don’t see it a problem by now. If you prefer the original version instead of the all-male character cast we got for the international release, which looks boring by the way, this is it.

The best audience for this is Tetris Attack experts, My Little Pony Generation IV fans, Sailor Moon fans, and other female themed anime, cartoon, or video games which is still enjoyed by guys today. The translation is next to perfect and the voice act remained Japanese-only which is very difficult to do finding the perfect voices for the English cast. I’d prefer the Panel de Pon look over the Mushroom Kingdom version we got.
