Spelling correction of the word "Assohles", I fixed the typo and changed it to "Assholes". I also capitalized the words "French", and "English" in the description section. Self Randomising ROM

Hack of Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones

Description:

This patch creates a rom that randomises itself. Every game you play gets randomised, removing the need for an external randomiser program. There are several options within the game available to change the experience, and seeds may be input for consistent randomisation. Skills have also been added into the game.

See here for further information.

ROM / ISO Information:

  • No-Intro Name: Fire Emblem - The Sacred Stones (USA, Australia)

Self Randomising ROM = WIN!

Before I get into the review of this hack I would like to note I played it using 100% randomization and no weapon breaking.

I thoroughly enjoyed this hack. It adds a layer of difficulty not present in the original game. Starting off you have the option to make the game as random as you would like. My choice was to go 100%, meaning there is a chance of missing out on stuff. You can also keep thieves the same characters if you want all the treasure in the game.

To talk more about my experience I had no thieves, so no random treasure. This doesn’t hurt you as much because there have been some edits in the normal item shop (I haven’t played the original game in a decade or so). This is where you can get class change items and other stat up items. There are still some items you might not obtain or obtain too early.

Many of the classes seem to have the same items equipped, such as the Shaman who has Nosferatu equipped. This makes some of the enemy classes more powerful than others. Also boss weapons may be randomized and they own a Slim Sword compared to what they would usually have.

This item balance is a mixed bag. When you fight some of the later bosses they can constantly heal themselves while you wait on a critical hit to 1 shot them. It does add some difficulty to the game and others it adds frustration. There was one mission, Chapter 5x, where I could not actually finish the chapter in a reasonable amount of time because of the lack of damage I could do, again 100% random.

A call out to most people is there is a point in the story where the heroes can class change. If you do not accept the class change you will get random items instead. This is off set by the ability to by Master Seals in the armory.

When speaking on characters there seems to be some that are still overpowered just in a different class. My Gilliam was a troubadour but was still mostly unbeatable from the high RES and DEF. My Joshua and Lute were Shamans, they could kill most everything in 1 attack and fully heal themselves.

Overall it adds to this game. I know you are saying there was a bunch of complaints about this and that. It forces you to think outside the balanced box of the original game. You may have to improvise how to kill a boss or deal with a certain situation. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves Fire Emblem Sacred Stones (aka I ELF, MEMBER)for the shear challenge alone. My small nitpicks do not change the greatness presented by author.
