SMB3 - Extended Edition

Hack of Super Mario Bros. 3

Description:

A patch thought to be long lost to the void of the internet, it’s the return of ShaneM’s “Super Mario Bros. 3 Extended Edition”!

This is a purification work. This is a hack of SMB3 that fixes glitches and restores beta features. The original SMB3 had 90 levels, while this one has 107. Most of the lost levels have been restored, while adding 3 e-levels from the GBA version: Super Mario Advance 4. The lost Hammer Bros. of World 7 has also been restored. Previously unused tiles and graphics have been utilized. The biggest feature: the lost level “Parabeetle Plains”! The new levels have been given an unused Ghost House sprite on the overworld maps. Features, as well as the original damage system have been restored from the original Japanese version, too.

There are two lost enemies, too: gold Cheep-cheeps and green Parabeetles.

Patches have been made for both the PRG0 & PRG1 ROMs.

This is better than the original.

The new additional levels are in unexpected areas in the map and the sprite representing the new level is kinda odd; But with that, I can give it a free pass. This actually is better than the original Japanese version, US version, and European version. I like the subtle additions of the Japanese version and the save feature. I played all 107 levels and enjoyed myself. The challenge put in that made the Japanese version harder is welcomed here. This pushed me to use more stored items more often and not to hoard too much. The new levels are also a great welcome to the game. I waited over 20 years to play the Parabettle plains level and enjoyed it. The new World 8-3 is also a great welcome too. This is a great modification of SMB3 and I prefer this over the originals.
