Hack of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past


Inspired by the movie CUBE, this hack was made as one giant dungeon, which has 10×10 Hyrule Magic rooms. Thus the entire game is one big dungeon, which you need to solve in one sitting and no deaths. Can you do it? Can you find the exit?

This is a short hack, which will sometimes force you to think hard before you will be able to progress, but for the most part is still on par with the difficulty of the original game, with hints when special tricks are needed to progress.

Note: Because of the sheer size of this dungeon with 100 rooms and because of the possibility of extensive backtracking, the progression was intentionally made to be linear and thus survival/puzzle oriented, rather than exploration oriented.

Fun Dungeon Romper

If you have ever played a SMW hack like Keytastrophe, or Claustrophobia that’s what this hack feels like. Like each screen is a level, rather than the intended playthrough. Everything is removed s.a. story, side-quests like finding heart pieces or items, and bosses (as far as I can tell), so you just need to focus on solving puzzles to get through each room. The difficulty is not too taxing, there are some rooms where you will bang your head for 10 minutes trying to figure it out, and other rooms you won’t need to stress. It’s recommended to beat in one sit-down, but after playing for 45 minutes to an hour I used a save state, and set it aside for another time.

This is really a neat idea, and perhaps some other hackers might design something similar. There’s thousands of possibilities for each room, with the weapons, items, enemies, and tile sets. You’ve probably seen the name Puzzledude in the famous rom hack Parallel Worlds so you know it’s legit. I’ve beat maybe 30-50 rooms out of a hundred so far, so hopefully I’ll see a boss or two (and maybe a couple hearts or a fairy) before getting through all 100!
