I’ll start with the good.

The game seems to be completely re-arranged using tiles from Metroid 2 giving it a completely new look and feel. You’ll spend a lot of time exploring trying to find each upgrade. My playthrough took me about 3:30 hours and I still haven’t even found the wave beam!

The bad:

I should mention, this is a really good hack. I hate saying negative things but this is a review…

A lot of the area designs are very repetitive. Especially norfair. Each area looked exactly the same for a majority of Norfair. Kraid area bug was interesting. While fighting a fake Kraid I died. But when I continued I was in a different area entirely. Because of this I managed to beat Kraid and get the Varia suit before I even had the bombs.

Even with those negatives, it’s still a good hack and worth a playthrough for sure. Designing maps for Metroid can’t be easy and Ridley X did a good job of creating a new experience out of a 30 year old game.
