Enjoyable and Impressive
Reviewed By: RyanfaeScotland on 16 Feb 2016If I told you that this hack has you playing a game as Diglett wielding a flick knife that should be enough to get most people downloading it. For anyone who needs further convincing please continue reading.
Although this is listed on RHDN as an improvement I think many players may question whether having one of the worst Pokémon (coming in just slightly better than a Magikarp out of water) as a replacement for one of the strongest characters in game is actually an improvement. Thankfully though Diglett retains a considerable amount of strength making him a very powerful character to play as so even if you feel this is more of a parody than an improvement you are sure to have fun!
The animations are good, perhaps a little jumpy in places with only minor glitches that I noticed. Many moves are implemented including grab moves and specials but a few are missing notably vertical ‘rolling’ by double tapping up or down. No noticeable issues with collision detection either in regular playing.
One thing that does stand out like a sore thumb is the unaltered character avatar on the player select screen. Perhaps considered too much effort to change it is unfortunate that such a fun and impressive graphical hack didn’t go as far as altering this as well.
I only played through the first 3 levels, finding that that was enough to get a feel for what this hack delivers but they were an enjoyable 3 levels and down the line I think I’ll return to finish the game as Diglett.
All in all a fun and recommended hack, whether you are a Pokémon fan or not.
