Hack of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

Puzzledude started to remodel the original Zelda A Link to the Past game a long time ago. Unlike Goddess of Wisdom this is a modification, but despite that the dungeons are quite different to solve with a lot of new tricks and hidden objects. The star on the floor has many meanings in this game. Sometimes it will change the pits on the floor, but usually it means that something is hidden. In this case, lift or hammer everything. At one point it even serves as a switch for opening the door.

Puzzledude was concentrating to change the gameplay as much as possible, so even a veteran of the game can easily get stuck. The game is also more difficult than the original, but still quite easy at some points. Despite the fact that this is a remodel, it still took a lot of work, specially because of the number of the dungeons. The overworld, however, is less modified, but there are a lot of barriers, that will force you to search for the correct path. A smart player will quickly see, that this is much more than just another vapid master quest.

Great Dungeons, horrible hub world.

Reviewed By: Voidspirit on 02 Aug 2015

This review will be about my experience so far in regards to gameplay.

Link wakes up, I move outside, the first thing I’m greeted with when I go north is Tree’s blocking the path. I think to myself, “Alright, this is cool, I get to chose a different path.” When I go left, I am greeted with a maze of cut off trees. Making me walk and waste a lot of time just, walking.

As I mentioned above, these Maze like structures, are EVERYWHERE. It took me about 15 minutes to just get to the temple (When I knew how to get there. Otherwise another 10 minutes for walking and discovering).

This is the main flaw of the game and makes it nearly unplayable, unless you have nothing better to do than walking as Link in a boring maze.

What this hack does great however is the dungeons. They make you think and actually challenge you, quite fairly. But for me, that wasn’t enough to keep playing. The hub world was, awful.

I wanted to start at the mountain caves as I came back from a break, with a new fresh mind. And where does it spawn me?

In spikes. You gotta WALK all the way to the temple from either the Sanctuary or your house.

Feel like it’s fun? It’s not.
