Super Mario Bros. in the Mystery of the Flying Fish

Hack of Super Mario Bros. 3

Description:

While Mario is romping through the Mushroom Kingdom’s royal water fountains one day, he is witness to a mysterious phenomenon: the fish from around the kingdom begin to take flight! It’s up to the Mario Brothers to find out what is responsible (I wonder…) and stop it before the local fish markets are all dried up! Note that this is a “mini-hack” – a novelty/concept hack that is complete and spawns only one world.

Short but very sweet

Reviewed By: yoyotheyoshi on 25 Sep 2014

This is a single-world hack that proves challenging and fun enough to keep players going until the end of the hack, with a very interesting end boss battle. Every stage is auto-scrolling which adds to the challenge and just about every stage is filled to the brim with Cheep-Cheeps! Every kind. Even the legendary golden Cheep-Cheep that was one of the unused enemies in the original version of Super Mario Bros. 3, and even a Porcu-Puffer never seen before in SMB3, except in other hacks.

The stage layouts are very well done, I didn’t come across any bugs or issues, the challenge was just right and the game took about half an hour for me to finish, give or take. For someone less acquainted with Super Mario Bros. 3 than I may find it’ll take longer to finish, but I’d estimate no more than 2 hours to the casual gamer.

Excellent work on this. :)
