Hard Awakening

Hack of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX

Description:

This is essentially Master Quest for Link’s Awakening (DX). The dungeon maps are the same as in the original with different layouts, some minor modifications made to the overworld, some edited text for better or worse, and new uses for a few items not utilized in the original.

Apply the patch to a Link’s Awakening DX ROM and have at it.

Edit: v1.1 patch is here now. See the readme to know what has been changed.

06/12/13 update: v1.1 patch was mistakenly not implemented, but it’s here now.

Memory wipe

Reviewed By: devdri on 02 Apr 2013

This mod felt the same as the very first time I beat the game as a kid. There are still all the locations I love, but tweaked here and there to force genuine exploration and boost the difficulty. Thanks Jeville for letting me play my all time favorite game for the first time again! The beginning is probably the best modification. I hoped for a bit more changes / out of order later in game, but still the dungeon reworkings were top and I could finish the last 3 levels out of order anyway. I have to admit I had to move from phone to TAS emulator on PC at one point. There were two or three rooms that required inhuman precision and speed. I also couldn’t get the beak in Bottle Grotto, although I have an idea how it can be done now. Anyway, 100% recommended if you loved the original and would like to get a memory wipe and skill downgrade to make the game challenging again.
