I enjoyed the first Alternate Tracks very much, and was excited to play this second installement. I was disappointed. The Mushroom and Flower cups are nice, they offer a tough challenge which equals the Alternate Tracks 1 Special Cup tracks (so WAY tougher than the original game most difficult tracks). But Star Cup and Special Cup are ridiculously hard, I mean is it even possible to finish first in some of those tracks ? Check out Ghost Valley 3 if you’re in need of a sadist treat. The design of these tracks isn’t always very good either, Bowser Castle 3 being a good example : too confusing graphically and a way too hard long jump where you’ll often end up in the lava even at full speed and heading straight forward.

Another thing : the tracks themes are unchanged and remain in their original slots. I mean that you get Mario 1, Donut 1, Ghost 1, Bowser 1 and Mario 2 for Mushroom Cup like in the original game, and so on. A change of order at least would have been welcome. A new theme would have been perfect.

I’m still waiting for a third version of Alternate Tracks, hoping that the mistakes of this one won’t be repeated.
