Description:
This hack for Castlevania modernizes the control scheme to make it more like Symphony of the Night and Mega Man, allowing the player more control while in the air.
Complete list of changes:
- Enables the player to control their x-velocity in mid-air while jumping (including while jump-attacking).
- (optional) When releasing the jump button, one immediately starts falling again; this allows the player to make smaller hops if desired.
- After being knocked back, the player regains control after a split second and can angle their fall.
- When walking off an edge, the player retains control instead of dropping straight down.
- The player can jump off of stairs at any point in the climb.
- (optional) The player can land on stairs.
- (Optional) A bit of inertia while moving in the air.
Similar to the Akumajou Densetsu (Castlevania 3) hack here and Castlevania 2 hack found here.
Use Lunar IPS to apply the hack to your Castlevania 3 ROM file.
Version 1.1 changes:
- Now compatible with Ultimate Castlevania and The Holy Relics. Please ensure that you use the correct patch from the zip (other-hacks and the-holy-relics respectively) if you combine this hack with other hacks.
Version 3.0 changes:
- Now compatible with many other romhacks as well (see the folder for compatibility with other hacks)
- Stair landing
- Optional inertia for “weightier” jumps.
- Individual changes can be selected.
Version 3.1 changes:
- Changed folder layout of zip file to be less confusing. Previously, many would-be-players were incorrectly applying the patch for the vanilla version of the game onto hacked versions of the game.

A Must-Have improvement
Reviewed By: NoReason on 20 Nov 2023This makes falling into holes from getting smacked by Medusa Heads a thing of the past! That alone makes it worth a download.
The jumps are smooth, implemented correctly, and don’t feel out of place at all.
Getting a small bump when damaged instead of a huge knock back changes the game to be much less frustrating and it should have been that way from the start in my opinion.
Jumping onto and off of stairs provides new strategies and adds a feeling of polish to the game play
This hack is so essential to my enjoyment of this game now that I won’t play another hack unless it is compatible with this one. Luckily, this hack is compatible with almost every other hack I have tried.
