FINAL FANTASY: Age of WarMECH

Hack of Final Fantasy

Description:

After two months of development, Roebloz comes out with a new banger and (hopefully) better balanced than his recent Sonic and Metroid hacks with his own Final Fantasy, FF: Age of WarMECH. (Or FF: AoW for short) The hack follows the story of four friends that barely escaped the destruction of their hometown Blozville from the deadly robot known as WarMECH. (Who was the infamous superboss of Final Fantasy 1) The hack features a lot of familiar enemies and the same 6 classes Final Fantasy 1 fans are all used to, albeit with new weapons, new spells, new items and a brand new world+story to go through. The four LIGHT WARRIORS will have to fight powerful bosses to bring back peace to the world of Ejarah, and end the Age of Terror that WarMECH is bringing. The…Age of WarMECH? Eh? If you are a fan of the original Final Fantasy and you want a story based around the infamous enemy sprinkled in with hilarious moments, this hack is for you!

Fear of getting into a new game without readily-available info on the new enemies and such? No fear, as Roebloz thought of everything, and was kind enough to include a manual with info on all the enemies, bosses and new stuff there is to find in Age of WarMECH, so you won’t have to wait years to get a GameFAQs guide about this, you can just dive right in!

And before you go ahead and play this, let this beautifully-written prelude inform you.

“Once upon a time, the distant land of Ejarah lived in peace, its grassy lands flourishing with nature and life. All the five towns were at peace; Blozville, Woodland, Aethlune, Sebusok, Grassfront, and Blitz City.

One night, during the annual festival of Blozville, 4 friends are instead playing around the woods. But as the festival commences, a terrifying robot lands in the middle of the village, and as the 4 friends were about to head back in, they see their hometown get obliterated.

A bunch of soldiers from Woodland quickly arrive to try and defeat the robot, but they soon find themselves to be helpless, as they were not the ones chosen by fate… Fate, has chosen the 4 friends as its LIGHT WARRIORS to fight against the robotic threat.

Its name? WarMECH. And thus, as the 4 LIGHT WARRIORS set out, begins a new age… The Age of WarMECH.”

Update 1.1 and 1.2a: Fixed the Gym participating in human trafficking and not selling BUFF, and then fixed BUFF targeting the enemies instead.

Update 1.2b: Added some bonus wallpapers, both a modern FF-style logo and an Earthbound intro-styled wallpaper. (Were meant to be added much earlier)

Update 1.3: Rebalanced a lot of early and lategame enemies, (Mainly the ones in the Temple of Death and the Volcano) fixed incorrect CUBE placement, as well as the grey carpets in the Underwater Temple.

A new experience, sometimes great sometimes frustrating

This is for the most part more difficult than Vanilla. Especially the late game part and don’t get me started on the Bonus Dungeon. I mean it’s meant to be hard but some encounters are really over the top. (this encounter especially: two big and six small enemies, I don’t want to spoil which ones but if you see this setup you gonna have to pray to survive.)

The new map is a good thing and gives a new feel to the game. However, the design is difficult to traverse through, finding new locations or even being able to backtrack where you’ve been (to stock up on potions, softs, … stuff), I so wish the world map would work (B + select). Navigation was horrible and some map and dungeon designs were a bit too geometrical for my liking. Nonetheless all in all good work on a new map, in the end I liked it.

The bug when you level up with a certain late game weapon equipped on the Knight should totally get fixed, it’s really annoying! (the one where its hit% overflow during level up ending you up with the most inaccurate Knight you could imagine). Makes that particular weapon something you wanna totally neglect and avoid. I learned that the hard way and had to reset, repeat the bonus dungeon and NOT equip that weapon.

As far as I can tell nothing was changed class-wise and stat-wise, but some characters got some really nice new specific weapons which made them more worthwhile (red mage and thief in particular). I liked that - it’s always nice to see hacks that buff those classes that come a bit short in vanilla.

Anyway - if you like hard Final Fantasy hack challenges totally go for this hack! If you are hard-headed and have a high frustration tolerance also complete the bonus dungeon.
